Hurford Youth Fellowship Program 2023 – Applications are currently open to apply for Hurford Youth Fellowship till July 31, 2023. Applicants from all over the world can apply for this Fellowship Program. During this program, young activists will have to spend 3 months at the World Movement’s Secretariat in Washington D.C. At this time, young activists will create a network with other activists from different countries, they will share their experiences with each other, get knowledge from activists of democratic movements and participate in the development of the World Movement of Democracy.
Hurford Youth Fellows will be engrossed in strategic meetings, lead and organize the presentations, conduct the research, online discussions and sessions of sharing information on the key issues of democracy. After the completion of Hurford Youth Fellowship Program successfully, fellows will be working with the Hurford Youth Fellowship Alumni Network to continue involvement and take the lead in activities related to youth.

The Hurford Youth Fellowship Program has aim to assemble leadership skills, improve the talent related to organization and administration and utilize the capability of democratic leaders who are emerging from all over the globe. This is not an educational program unlike a graduate leadership programs so you will not get any degree after completion of this program. Leadership degree programs are also offered by many institutes which we will cover in out future posts.

Eligibility Criteria for Hurford Youth Fellowship Program 2023:
- Candidates who want to apply for the Hurford Youth Fellows Program should be less than 30 years of age.
- Applicants should show a strong interest in democratic activism and in the democratic advancement in their respective communities or countries, as well as globally.
- Applicants who are affiliated with an organization of civil society are especially encouraged to apply for this program.

English Language:
A basic or working knowledge of English is necessary to participate in this fellowship program. It is important for the purpose of communication. All the material related to the application needs to be submitted in English.
Selection Procedure:
Fellows will get selected by the staff of the World Movement Secretariat, the NED regional program and the Hurford Youth Fellowship Alumni Network after the application process. Selection will be on the basis of a set of criteria which include a demonstration of activism or interest in the advancement of democracy, a wish to make a network with others, and a clear description of how the fellowship will benefit their own efforts for advancing democracy.

Requirements for Accommodation:
Fellows will get the opportunity to be in residence at the NED during the whole time period of the fellowship. So that they can get full benefits of the professional resources that are available in D.C. Fellows will have to work full-time on their fellowship projects at the NED office in Washington, D.C . Fellows are not allowed to hold any other fellowships or to get employed during the fellowship period unless they get the permission from the staff of World Movement Secretariat.
Benefits of Leadership Programs:
- All the fellows will get a monthly allowance for living expenses.
- Basic health insurance will be provided.
- Roundtrip travel to and from Washington, D.C. will be covered
- Fellows will be given a fully equipped office, access to internet and email and a limited budget for long-distance phone calls related to the fellowship.
- The World Movement Secretariat staff help the fellows recognize their fellowship purposes by collaborating with them on their fellowship projects and get them engage in ongoing discussions about their work.
- NED contain a Democracy Resource Center (DRC), which has a library with around 20,000 works, which include books, journals, grantee reports, and other publications on democracy. Fellows can also get access to other local libraries if needed.
- If fellows want to bring family members to Washington D.C. they will have to cover their expenses by themselves.
